Framingham Flyer 5k Breakaway Race Recap (9/16-9/21)

Coming off of the amazing time of RTB, it was back to running solo, but also week 2 of a solid 6 week race schedule!

I definitely didn't trash my legs at RTB, and was able to come back with a decent 1-4-1 tempo session Tuesday as well as a kicking off the Yasso 800s Marathon prep plan with my regular Thursday speed sesssion (6x800 @ 3:12 avg)

Saturday AM I packed the kids into the car, headed out to Framingham to our cape friend Aaron's house, where his daughter watched C & R while I ran in the 5k he helps organize for his kids HS hockey team.  It was a very small race, only 75-80 people, and most of them were kids on the hockey team, or family of kids on the hockey team.  I was dressed (in my RTB singlet) a bit flashier than most of the other runners, but I left any snide comments about my attire behind me at the start as I set out behind 3 hs xc kids with a 6:01 minute first mile.  I couldn't keep pace with any of those three, but I did turn in a PR time of 19:27, and managed to out-kick a 4th 15 y/o xc runner in the final 200 yards, so i finished 4th place:  Race Results & Garmin log

Here I am with Aaron and his son Ryder after the race, and me with my certificate for first in my age/gender--just wish I could have made it onto my first podium! :)

THEN, on Sunday, I went out with the FAST FHR long run group...they were doing 18-20 miles at 7:30 m/m and I planned on 12-14, at that pace (if I could keep up.)  I did keep up, until around 10 mils, and then they were sneaking down closer to 7:15s and I was feeling it from the 5k PR the day before, so I peeled off and cooled down around Jamaica Pond.

All in all, I ended up running 40 miles (vs 36 planned) at an avg pace of 7:43.  Not too bad!
